I’m dropping in today to chat about neck pain. Whether it’s tech neck, mommy neck, headaches, migraines, or just a plain pain in the neck… I think so many people suffer from pain here. I manage my own neck/jaw pain and headaches, and from day to day I manage it with a few tips that keep my neck feeling A-OK.
Here’s the thing, what I’ve found over my years practicing is the two don’t go hand in hand, but a lot of times people who have neck muscle tension will have headaches. But some people with neck tension, just have very local pain. What happens is we spend most our days with forward head carriage, rolled shoulders, and all our tasks happening right in front of us. SO… today I’m sharing my quick tips on how to kick that neck pain:
- Drink water. Sometimes a headache or muscle pain is purely just your muscle begging for some hydration. Think about it, does a plant grow without proper watering…. right? Your body won’t function without it very well either.
- Peppermint oil. I’m obsessed. Literally is everywhere… in my car, in my house, my clinic room, EVERYWHERE. You must have this one thing, and I just pick it up at my local health food store for less than $10. Mix 3-4 drops with a little coconut oil, olive oil, or your lotion to dilute it and just lather it all over your affected muscles.
- Stretch. Those upper traps, subocciptials, scalene, SCM, TMJ muscles… yep big names, I know. But these are the muscles that could be causing you a ton grief. Check out this link for some stretches!
- Heat. Warm up that heating pad, or magic bag and put it on first thing the morning, or when you have pain. It helps me a TON!
